This edition’s jury has been composed by the Director of Documenta 13 Kassel and Director of Castello di Rivoli Turín, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev; the Director of the Institute d’art contemporain Villeurbanne Lyon, Nathalie Ergino; the Director of Jeu de Paume, Paris, Marta Gili; the editor of german magazine Texte zur Kunst, Isabelle Graw and the Catedrátic of Esthétic and Art Theory of the University Jaime I Castellón, Wenceslao Rambla.

Born in Monclova, Mexico in 1975, García Torres is part of a young generation of artists that has taken Conceptual Art and individuals like Robert Barry and Lawrence Weiner as its guiding lights. These elements, combined with painstaking work and preparatory research, have led to a broader narrative more attuned to the artist’s personal, social and political concerns. His artworks tell stories about places, artists and art, many of which are branded by the use of outmoded technologies (slides, 16mm film) and by the insertion of lettering and voiceovers.

The awarding by the jury will take into account the principle of quality and excellence of the winner work, as well as the evident rigor and creative risk-taking of the artist.
